Volunteer at the Summit

IGNITE and the San Francisco Department on the Status of Women are looking for volunteers for the 2024 SHIFT Happens Summit!

Interested in volunteering? Complete our brief interest form.

Logistics for Volunteering at the Summit

The event is taking place at Moscone Center South and will feature incredible women leaders from around California and the nation. This year’s theme is focused on engaging women around gender equity issues in advance of the 2024 elections.

All volunteers will receive a complimentary registration for the event, which includes lunch and snacks. We have volunteer opportunities in advance of the event as well as on the day of. Scheduling details are in the sign-up form below.

Some details and FAQS:

  • We are looking for folks that are passionate about gender equity!

  • We ask for one shift per volunteer.

  • We appreciate flexibility. Tasks or times may change, and we will communicate these as much as possible in advance.

  • Types of activities volunteers will help with include:

    • In advance: swag sorting and compiling, setting up event signage

    • Day of: registration, greeters and directional support, room guides

  • All volunteers are asked to please be on time for their shift and ready to go.

  • There will be different expectations for attire depending on your volunteer shift. Activities in advance of the summit will be casual—jeans and sneakers would be appropriate unless otherwise noted. For activities on the day of the summit, we ask for folks to be in “business neat” or business. YESES: Slacks or trousers. Button downs. Blouses. Knee length skirts or dresses. Comfortable shoes—no running shoes but “upscale” sneakers are okay (think All Birds, Sperry).  Please, no clothes with tears, curse words, graphic imagery, t-shirts, jeans, or running shoes. We also REALLY do not recommend heels—it’s a BIG venue. Layers (blazers, sweaters, cardigans, scarves) are also great—event venues are notorious for being chilly in one room and toasty in another. You’re likely to be moving around a bit, so please keep that in mind. If you’re unsure, just ask!

  • Volunteers are SUPER welcome to wear our event colors—bright pink, yellow or blue!

A few things to note:

  • All volunteers will be sent a code to register for the event before the summit. We are using an app for the event called Whova, and once registered volunteers will be able to log in and see speakers, the agenda, and connect with other attendees.

  • There will be trainings at the summit and organizations that are tabling that offer great networking opportunities! We encourage you to connect with organizations for mentorship, interning and employment opportunities.

Next Steps:

DOSW staffers Denise and Dominique will reach out to folks that complete the form with information on orientations and to confirm shifts. Not all activities will require orientations (think swag bag organizing) but for folks volunteering on the day of, there will be two virtual orientations offered.

If you need any documentation of your volunteer hours, please be sure to check that off on the form.
